Welcome ladies and gents to the fourth round critiques. This round, we broke you off into teams to create your own sitcoms.
Let's get to the critiques. We will begin with Team 1.
On the Catwalk
Madonna - The Stick/The Bully
Bingbing: There are hybrid archetypes in sitcoms, but I think for the purposes of this competition, I would have preferred it if you had chosen one archetype and ran with it. Still, I can see this shot meeting the terms of the hybrid archetype you're going with here. I do like your outfit and the way you've styled your hair, but the lack of a neck in this shot has it feeling a bit too stiff here. Strong shot, but not quite perfect.
Amanda: I want more neck! And yeah, that logo is a bit bold and noticeable, but I don't mind that much at all. Aside from those, this is fierce, badass, and totally sells your archetype well. I like this a lot, and you've proven yourself to be quite the frontrunner in this competition with your consistency and versatility. Keep up the great work!
Emma: I think you hit a lot of positives with this picture. The fashion is great, the face is selling your character, and I think the setting is perfect for the theme. You are missing your neck, but I don't mind it due to the angle and the style of the outfit here. I love the lines we get from the waist down, but I do feel like the trunk of your body is a bit too short, but nothing horrible. I'd have cropped the bottom 10-15 pixels off the image to get rid of the text, but again, a minor complaint. Great job, again. You're proving to be quite consistent!
Jennifer: This is definitely work attire and the tie could be swapped out for a measuring tape of sorts and also work. Fitting for the owner of a management agency. Another strong submission from you, I like the sitcom concept, and see the character you described in this photo. Easily one of my favorites this round.
Jensen: Fierce!!! I love this. You look so mean!!! The pose is great. The outfit is also great. Very good job!
Megan - The Goofball
Bingbing: This shoot tends to be different cause it's one of those times where you can really cut loose with a shot like this and have it go over well. I agree that I would have liked a description to accompany the shot, but I feel like it's not really that necessary. We get a lot of personality from the shot alone and I feel like we can tell a lot about what your character would be. You strike me very much as a Fran Drescher type of character; I wouldn't be surprised if this shoot was actually inspired by her. The quality is slightly off as the other judges have touched on, but I've seen worse and I'm not that concerned about it here. Overall, I feel it's pretty solid.
Amanda: I can't see what you're thinking here - you need to share that, especially given that I don't look anywhere else but this thread (or in this instance, for a reward). A little description can help me see it in a new way and let that. This does NAIL the theme, at least, since this looks like an official photo for a TV network's website for promotional material. You don't even look like you here. Crazy librarian type? I think?
Emma: To echo the other judges, I think this is a photo where a description would have helped flesh out your character a lot. It's such an interesting shot, that I do want to know more, and this is a theme where you can easily provide more information without looking like you're trying to hard. This works for me, and I would compare it to Jennifer's photo from last season. This picture wouldn't have worked well for most themes, but works here, given the situation. I want to hate it, but in the end, I like it.
Jennifer: I agree with Jensen, I think this photo is fun and flirty and totally works with your theme but I would have liked to see a description go with it. Again, props to you for coming up with submissions that keep making me recognize the range you have. Well done!
Jensen: Where's your description? I couldn't wait to see this photo and see you totally work it but there's no description for it. That sucks. I love the image, it's totally dead on. Good think I remember what you chose cuz you didn't put that either. I really truly think this is perfect for the theme this round.
Nico - The Charmer
Bingbing: I'll pretty much just be echoing what the other judges have said here. We can see your character in this shot and that bed looks mighty inviting, but the expression is slightly off for me. I like my man to stay up for longer than 2 minutes in bed and you don't look like you have the stamina for that.
Amanda: I don't know if I mind the "tired" look here because, well, you're in a bed and inviting some girl (or guy?) to come sleep with you. As in... cuddle and fall asleep. That sort of sells the "let's fuck" part a bit short, but it's not as major of a problem as it could potentially have been. No other complaints here!
Emma: I have to say that both of my fellow judges pointed out a few of my similar sentiments. The face does say a bit tired to me, but I do like the composition of the photo with the environment really helping to seek the concept of your character. And, like Jensen, I'm up for a slumber party in that bed! Solid submission overall.
Jennifer: I'm not as sold on this submission Nico. I see the theme and what you were going for here but I think the face looks a bit tired. He is giving me the inviting look that Jensen says is calling him into bed so that is good, I just don't know if he'll stay awake long enough.
Jensen: While I might not normally like that face, this is perfect. I totally see charmer. You look so inviting and I'd love to hop into bed with you <3
Tulisa - The Precocious
Bingbing: You look a lot like JLaw to me, in this photo. I think your dress works great for your archetype. The windblown hair is a nice added touch to the shot. I'm starting to think that model choice might be your biggest problem in this game. Some celebrities just always have the same face in all of their shots and with the repetition of the face comments you've been getting from the panel, Tulisa might be one of those models and it'll be difficult to overcome that problem (but not impossible). You've done well fulfilling the theme this round, though.
Amanda: I don't hate the face and it actually is a sort of model look, but like the others have said... it does not work for your archetype and we've seen it before. I'm starting to question your versatility as a model since only once in four weeks have we seen any real emotion from your face (last week). As for the theme... the outfit and posing works, and the studio shoot does work here (for a sitcom's website, which is appropriate). I'm okay with this, Tulisa, but it could be quite a bit more than it is.
Emma: See Jensen and Jennifer's comments. Yeah... that face. I don't actually dislike the face here, so maybe it's growing on me. But for this theme, and for Precocious, that face does NOT work at all. It's way too serious for that archetype. The fashion and pose sell the theme, but I'm stuck on that stare. Not horrible, but still room for improvement!
Jennifer: This is a cute photo and fits well with your sitcom type. However, taking cue from Jensen, I look over at your avatar and see the exact same face. Your eyes and lips match up too well in comparison and after a couple rounds, the judges and I start looking for something different. Focus on showing us a new expression next week and you should be good to go!
Jensen: Ok, so. I love this photo. Except...................that's right, the face lol If I hand't seen this same face three times before, I wouldn't care. Lets work on that ok. This photo is super cute and very precocious. Great job.
Mr Right
Deepika - The Charmer
Bingbing: I felt a disconnect between your character and your bio, but the bio is predominantly for the reward while it could only enhance the photo, so the disconnect isn't bothering me as far as my rankings go. That said, I do love your posing and I see a Charmer archetype in this shot. I could also see this being used as a promotional shot for your character, while keeping in mind that you're in a modeling competition. Well done. You're really coming on strong.
Amanda: This shot is amazing, plain and simple. But like the other judges, I feel it's a bit too glamorous for a sitcom charmer; this is more of a "celebrity starlet" sort of deal. But that aside... A++++. Great work, easily your best shot yet.
Emma: Deepika, you look BEAUTIFUL! I 'm a little distracted by the bright lights, and do think that this is a bit in-your-face for the Charmer archetype, but aside from that, I don't have any complaints for the picture. Flawless modeling, in my opinion.
Jennifer: This is a great photo and I do like it but I think it is a bit strong to submit as the charmer. A softer image comes to my mind, something more playful or coy perhaps? As an addition to your portfolio, I do like this submission for your pose and face. And the bigness of your hair definitely works in your favor.
Your description was intense! I like the amount of effort you put into it. As a possible fan though, I almost felt it was too much. Would the viewers be able to keep up with all details involved in Shanty's back story? Most likely they could, but something to consider.
Jensen: This photo is fierce!!! I love the pose and the setting. You're so beautiful. I agree that a softer photo would sell charmer better. I dont' see charmer in this image, but I do love it so much!
James - The Goofball
Bingbing: I saw some of your potential shots in your team board and I'm very happy you went with this shot. You show great personality, I like the unique posing, and the expression on your face just fits. Your fashion is also spot on. Easily your best showing to date and I hope that your placement in the rankings this round reflects that.
Amanda: You sell your archetype perfectly here while not sacrificing anything as a model, which is great. I don't really find anything remarkable about this, but I don't really have anything negative to say, either. It's a good photo, it just doesn't pop. But hey, that's better than a bad photo!
Emma: Yes, yes, yes. Finally, a picture of James that I don't have more negatives than positives! I'm very happy with this shot James. I think you hit the theme perfectly. The modeling is a big improvement, and I love the genuine smile. Props for the creative name! <3
Jennifer: This is a fun submission for me. I like the goofball look you have on your face and the pose works well with your sitcom type. I definitely think you did well this round. Good work!
Jensen: I really like this James! You look good and not too over the top and hold on to your modeling in this. Great job.
Keira - The Stick
Bingbing: I didn't notice that mask until the other judges pointed it out and it's not really bothering me since my eyes are still drawn to you. I think my criticism of this shot is going to be how stiff you look here. Yeah, your character is The Stick, but I don't think the stiffness adds that much to it since it looks a bit awkward. I'm going to have to blame a lot of it on that dress (even though I love the colors and that it's a defined statement outfit). Your expression is also a bit off for me.
Amanda: I have nothing more to add. The mask is distracting, your neck is completely gone, the gloves don't work here, that outfit burns my eyes (even if it works for the theme), but at least your modelling sells your archetype. Major step down overall, but hey, at least you look like a model here.
Emma: That face is spot on for the Stick. However, the fashion is a bit over the top, and AHHHHHHHH it's a no-neck-monster (but no really, I'm stuck looking at the mask in the background)! You're coming off of a great photo, and I know it's tough to sometimes keep the momentum going, but this does fall a little in my opinion. I think it was a creative risk that didn't fully pay off, unfortunately.
Jennifer: Kiera, I must admit your range is impressing me. I love seeing you in photos that don't instantly tell me it's you in them, at first glance I see Anna Kendrick here. As for playing the stick, I think your outfit works here. Your archetype personality allows for a somewhat forceful wardrobe (at least in my head) and that's what i see you giving us here. I wouldn't necessarily chose this ensemble normally but for this week's shoot, I think it works. I like the face your giving, it gives off a, you know what you're up to look and again, it works well for this shoot. I've said it before, but I love a strong theme connection and you have that this round for me.
Jensen: Your face and those gloves are just too elegant for that outfit. That outfit is atrocious. Are you sure you're a stick?? You've lost your neck here and not in a good way. Your expression I guess is fitting for stick, and maybe the stick thin pose lol but not sure how i'm feeling about this overall.
Selena - The Wisecracker
Bingbing: I do like that we get personality from you and I can see this working for your archetype. I like that you went this route since you have plenty of young photos that you could have used for The Precocious, but you didn't take the easy route. A color photo would have made this pop more and we're also missing a bit of fashion and modeling in this photo, but overall, I like it.
Amanda: Yeah, I don't think the black and white thing fits with this, but that aside, you are selling the theme amazingly. Even with a weird face, you still look like you're modeling it and really serving your personality and that of your character. It's not easy to do a face like this and you've pulled it off. This is your best yet, Selena, because the only issue this time (lack of color) isn't that big of a deal. Great work.
Emma: Easily my favorite picture of you so far. I'm loving the personality we see here. I was thinking the same thing about the B/W complaint, even before reading my fellow judges comments. It's not a make or break for me, but would have been an improvement to have color, IMO. Great shot overall though. One of, if not my favorite so far. I'm still deciding!
Jennifer: I really like this. I get such a strong sense of life from you and it translates well from a still photograph. I personally like the b&w part of it, even if it is different from the rest of your cast. Well done!
Jensen: I'm so glad you went with wise cracker instead. It's a great shot of you. I like that you're having fun with this and looking great while doing it. My only complaint is that the photo is B&W. Dont' get me wrong, it looks great, but everyone else's photos are in colour and if this is like a promotional shoot for the show, you should all match. Otherwise, this is great!
Yoon - The Square
Bingbing: The quality's a bit off and this is one of the shots that feels the least professionally done this round. That said, your shot just oozes character. This shot leaves me feeling like i know what type of character you'd be and I definitely appreciate that. I love the horrible fashion sense your character has here and think that only enhances your character.
Amanda: Nothing else to add here! Like Emma, I see a strong photo that isn't going to stick with me for very long - it may be a good submission, but there's nothing about it that makes me go "wow" in any way. You sell your archetype well and really, there's not much wrong with this. You look like a model, although more of an amateur model, and I can't be nitpicky very much. Good job.
Emma: Solid submission, but not memorable for me. I can't really find anything to critique poorly, but I'm not left with a "wow factor" in the back of my mind. Middle of the road for me, but you definitely improved from last week in terms of theme application.
Jennifer: This reminds me a New York Studio apartment tenant whose main worry is paying the bills, totally something the square would do. The outfit is a bit plain Jane, as you say, but it works here and turns out to be a very strong submission, great work!
Jensen: Very good job!! I totally see Square. And you've kept your modeling intact as well. I really like this even though your clothes are ugly as all get out.
Let's get to the critiques. We will begin with Team 1.
