Welcome ladies to the second round critiques. This round, we wanted you to show off some fashionable accessories.
We'll start off by critiquing all of the photos this round.
Deepika - Sunglasses
Bingbing: I'm not going to worry about the cropping issue that's being debated here since you can't crop much without starting to cut off your own body parts and we don't want you to go that far in this game. I love the extension that we get from you neck, I love your hair, and I think that style of sunglasses really suit you well. We don't need to see your eyes in every shot, especially in a shoot where part of the theme could involve covering them up. I'm not a fan of how your stomach looks this round. Maybe it's a combination or the dress and the angle of your body, but you look a little bigger than normal. Other than that, a pretty solid shot.
Amanda: Yeah, I've never been a big fan of sunglasses (always been a hat person), and although I do think they detract from the beauty of this photo, it sort of works. The modeling is superb, but in all honesty, I want to see your eyes. A good smize here would really make this have a really strong beauty to it. But this is the accessories shoot. I do like this, but like I said... I don't know whether or not the sunglasses were the right call here. No big deal though!
Emma: I'm going to disagree with Jensen on the cropping, as I feel that it's sometimes more interesting to have the model off to the side and not the center of attention. Granted, maybe a BIT less image on the left would pull the focus in a bit more, but overall, I like where you are in the photo. My only other critique is that you're looking a little, dare I say it, bloated? Suck that tummy in, girl! Otherwise, it's a great photo for me, with a solid showing of some kickass accessories. I'm usually not a big fan of filters, unless done right, and I think this one works, for whatever reason.
Jennifer: I actually really like this. Despite the fact that you're covering an essential part of any modeling photo, I still think this works very well. Your pose stands out, especially that long neck (always a good thing!) Then, there is your mouth, which I find intriguing, again, it draws me into the shot. I definitely feel like you are interacting with your accessory, even it is subtle. Well done!
Jensen: One thing you should have done was cropped out a lot of extra space on the left. Because of where you're standing and the sunglasses being the focus, I could do without the distraction of so much picture lol Other than that, this is fucking fantastic!! I really like this photo. You mouth is gorgeous here. I love the pose. I really really like this photo. You are one of the best this week!
James - Scarf
Bingbing: I think had this shot not been labeled with a scarf, it might have taken me longer to notice there was one. Especially around your neck, it blends in as if it's a detail of the jacket you're wearing. That said, I don't mind your face or your body language this time; it reads as playful to me. It's solid enough work but it's also missing kind of a wow moment here. Keep at it, though. The past two rounds, while you may not have been the most successful at winning over the judges, I have seen a lot of potential in you and it's just a matter of figuring out how to get us to love you when you already have all the tools to do so.
Amanda: You're crossing your arms and taking away the showcasing of the scarf here. That's bad. Your quirky face makes me think this is meant for a post-Christmas catalogue meant to cheer people up despite the horrendously cold weather. And even then, you're crossing your arms and that completely takes away what you should be showing off. You're modeling your arms, not the scarf here. I also feel that this is boring and safe. Sorry James, I don't like this much at all.
Emma: I love and hate that face. I think it's fun, but then paired with the scrunched up pose, it just seems cheesy. As the others said, you're covering a portion of your accessory, but the red does help bring it out. In the end, I can't say I love this photo, but I wouldn't say it's completely awful. I hope you stick around, but I'm a little worried if you keep submitting shots that have some obvious modelling flaws. Take a look at your avatar and draw some inspiration from that, as I feel like it's a great shot of James.
Jennifer: This isn't as big a hit for me. You have a lot going on with your jacket and scarf, and cheeky smile. I'm more drawn to your arm because of it's contrast with the darker colors in the whole photo. It does help that the scarf has a red streak, but again, I am drawn first to your arm. I think the tousled hair is a good fit but overall I just think this photo is too busy for a theme meant to focus on one particular thing.
Jensen: Your picture here has disappeared but it's showing in the gallery so I seen it. You have a lot of tie photos that could have worked just as well as a scarf. This isn't horrible but, the photo itself is really cute. But for a fashion accessory shoot? I'm not sure how much I love it.
Jennifer - Earrings
Bingbing: The quality of the image isn't too far off, so it's nothing I'd really be concerned about. Your earrings are definitely displayed well, so you have no complaints from me about the execution of the theme. The slouching isn't the most flattering pose you could have and the shot lacks a wow factor, but it's still a solid submission that you should be fine with.
Amanda: Better than last week, but I'm still not completely sold. I don't like how you're hunched over, as that makes your dress look like a blur and I'm not a fan of that. I also don't like how one earring is hidden - in a shoot about accessories, you need to sell them and you're only halfway there. I'm also not sold on the hairstyle for this, but at least there's modeling and at least this is at least somewhat aesthetically appealing. It's not very memorable, but it's still better than last round for me.
Emma: It's solid, but I have two complaints. The hair isn't my favorite, though that's more of a personal preference, I suppose, so I won't dock you there. But the other complain is the slouching pose. Otherwise, I think the earrings are nice, and they are definitely the focus, but you're giving us nice face, and a solidly compiled photo that feels classy and matches the accessory. In my opinion, last week's pose with this week's execution, and you'd be top notch.
Jennifer: I like this, I get a sophisticated vibe from the whole photo. I like how you are not outshining the accessory. As far as the earrings themselves, they borderline being too much but the position of your head helps make them seem smaller and not as overwhelming. I'm not as sold on your body's pose in this shot, being a little less hunched over could have really pulled the whole thing together. But i've definitely seen far worse before in body poses so nothing to get upset over. I like the direction you are heading, good work this week.
Jensen: The quality is not good. Wonder if it's an uploading issue because this is the second picture you've submitted with an issue. I like the sophistication of the photo but you look a tad scared. Like you're unsure of yourself. The earrings are cute though.
Keira - Bracelets
Bingbing: The first thing that I noticed when I looked at this shot was your skin. A little more make-up would have made your skin look a little better. The bracelets are present and noticeable without pulling attention. I have no problems with your facial expression, either. I think the biggest complaint you'll get from me is that the shot just feels a little too basic.
Amanda: Shots that are this close-range are VERY hit-or-miss with little middle ground. And with this one, had I not been able to see both of your hands, I'd have called it a selfie. In a modeling game, that's as bad as criticism gets. The quality, posing, styling, and whatnot all amount to a "selfie" for me, and even though you're very beautiful here, I don't see a model as much as I'd like. The bracelets aren't really being showcased as well as they could be, the surrounding seems very casual, and although I too see greatness in your eyes, the mouth isn't doing you any favors, although it's not hurting you either. This really isn't anything special, Keira, sorry to say. :/
Emma: I'm going to have to agree with most of what Amanda has said here. This shot is just not doing it for me. The natural focus of the camera is on your face, and the bracelets are a bit fuzzy as a result. And to be quite honest, it's kind of a "blah" face in my opinion. Not sure if you're skimping on the makeup here, and I think the hair is way too formal and "Saturday morning rolled out of bed" for me. I think last week was much better, and I'm hoping to see more like that. I know Keira has some amazing shots, as I've judged her before, so I hope to see that potential I saw last week as we move forward!
Jennifer: Bold choice to go with such an up close and personal shot. That being said, this isn't a home run for me. Your eyes have some life in them but coupled with the open mouth and I get more of a bland rather than lively feeling from this submission. I'm not one to usually get picky about quality but a sharper image could have really helped here.
Jensen: I like almost everything about this. I love the bangles. I really like the close up and natural look. I do not like the lighting. It makes your face look red and blotchy in some places. Your eyes are gorgeous and I see model here. But the lighting is horrible. Watch that for next time, as I'm sure you'll be just fine.
Kellan - Hat
Bingbing: You're not the only one who is getting this comment from me this round, but this shot's biggest fault is that it's a bit too basic. It's a nice straight-forward shot of you, your accessory is definitely visible, and the fashion is nice. It's stops short of wowing us, but it's a definite step up from last round.
Amanda: This is boring, but you do still manage to look like a model here. The lighting is one of the best things here and I like the way you're wearing the hat. But like J-Law, I'm not really a fan of the color and I think that may be why the shoot is so boring to me. I also am not totally fond of how this is cropped, since I want to see more of you. Overall, I can see the modeling quality but this isn't memorable enough on any level, but there isn't much particularly wrong with it, either.
Emma: Boring? Perhaps. But a much needed improvement from last week. I see a model here, despite absolutely hating the choice of fashion and accessory. I'll chalk that up to a personal preference though, and at least compliment you on showing us much better face and potential. Not my favorite, but hardly my least favorite. Keep improving and you'll be fine!
Jennifer: I definitely like you in this photo, the modeling is strong. Your eyes and expression stand out more than anything to me, and that's a really good thing. It's like a sexy, boy next door, kinda look and you pull it off well. As far as the hat, it blends in with the jacket because they are similar colors. Speaking of color, not exactly my first choice, or second really. It doesn't ruin the shot because it makes me look at you instead of your clothes but that's not something a clothing designer wants to hear about their line's fashion shoot.
Jensen: I agree with Amanda, it's boring. And I'm in love with Kellan. So you need to step it up bud!! I love your face. The modeling is good here. You have a lot better photos out there so I hope next round you'll extend your research some and find those photos. The hat is cute the jacket is ugly lol
Madonna - Sunglasses
Bingbing: Yeah, like the other judges, the filter is just slightly off for me. Going with the "thing at the top" that Amanda is talking about, I thought that was a reflection of a lighting fixture in the room. Would have preferred if the glasses didn't have it. That aside, this shot is great. Your accessory is very fashionable and you embody the type of woman who would wear it. If the other models didn't take you seriously when you signed up, after these first two rounds, they better start taking you seriously now.
Amanda: I happen to really dislike that thing on top of your sunglasses, as it's rather distracting and I don't get how anyone can see with right atop their eye. There's also something off about the quality of this. But really, what else am I going to say? You look like a model and even though I hate how sunglasses cover eyes, you're doing a good job here.
Emma: I have similar sentiments as Amanda and Jensen. It's good, with a few minor complaints. Here, I don't like the filter, and the pose is just a tad awkward for me, but those are minor complaints. Overall, solid submission!
Jennifer: Going with an accessory that covers your eyes is always a challenge. This is an instance where I think you've pulled it off wonderfully. The hair totally works for me, as does the strong, but not too pronounced, jaw line. Even the hue over the whole photo adds something a little extra. Everything in this photo just works together well. And as such, you've got a very strong submission on your hands. Well done Madge!
Jensen: This is probably the best of the round and I have nothing negative to say that Amanda didn't already touch on.
Megan - Purse
Bingbing: Yeah, the motorcycle is kind of distracting here. I had forgotten what the theme was when I first saw this picture and then remembered when I noticed your purse. Overall, this is a nice shot. The red really pops and contrasts well with you. You also have some great fashion going on here. It just would be better suited for a different theme than the one you have this round.
Amanda: I really happen to like this as a photo, as it's striking, modelesque, memorable, fierce, and all of those necessary things a good photo needs. The motorbike and jacket go together marvelously, and the colors in the photo as a whole are very strong and striking. I love your hair here, too, and I have no complaints about it. However - you knew this was coming - you're not really showcasing that handbag. It's just kind of there. It still qualifies for the theme, but not in a maximal fashion. Keep in mind that theme is only ONE criteria we look at, and even though it's one of the most important, tying it in loosely in a strong photo like this is always better than taking a selfie of yourself wearing sunglasses and submitting that. It may cost you some points since it's not as easily pronounced as it could be, but it's still there so you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Good work!
Emma: What can I say that the others haven't already pointed out. +10 points for modelling, -10 points for theme execution. It's really a wash for me. You're beautiful, but I'm not seeing the accessory. All I see is a sexy girl with a fast bike. And then I get lost in the busy nature of the shot. Bring that same modelling with a well executed theme, and you're gonna be hard to beat!
Jennifer: I initially thought your accessory was the Ducati, but then I saw the purse and figured that constituted more of a "fashion accessory" than a motorbike ever really would. I'm big on matching the theme, sometimes to the point where my modeling would be considered lackluster. I think you've gone the opposite in this round, your modeling is on point, but your theme is unclear, only because I'm not sure which accessory you are interacting with more. I like your facial expression the most in the shot, very independent woman-esq. Additionally, I think you have a strong pose, plus that jacket is pretty awesome.
Jensen: I really love how you can be so freaking edgy and so sexy and so versatile. That's what I love about Megan. The problem here, isn't your modeling or your look. It's that the fashion accessory is so far down and outshined by everything, that we have no idea what we're looking at until after we've oooooh'd and ahhhhhh'd at your photo.
Nico - Scarf
Bingbing: I'm in agreement with JLaw and Jensen this round: I love this shot. The scarf is very visible here and while most of your body is not present in this photo and it's a studio shot, we still get a lot from it. There's unusual action and great fashion. You're doing a great job showing that male models can hang with the ladies.
Amanda: No offense... but is this strangling the cat? You look like you're choking yourself here. You have no neck and your eyes look like the light is dying in them. The mixture of scarf and expression doesn't work for me at all, and although the theme is pronounced, it's high-fashion, and you look like you're at least trying to model, I can't really say I like it that much. I don't hate it - I've seen far worse and been far meaner to people in those circumstances - but I am thirsting for more.
Emma: I keep going back and forth on this one. For the positives, it's one of the photos I remembered after looking at them last night and coming back to critique this morning. It's not a bad shot, either, and the theme is well done. I just don't think I'm in love with the overall photo itself. The face is good, but doesn't seem to match the concept. As well, I'm also stuck on the fact that it does resemble a noose, which makes me think more artsy rather than fashion advertisement, which I feel should be the gist of an accessory shot. Instead of wanting to buy the scarf, I'm left pondering the artistry of the shot. You'll be fine though, so no worries there.
Jennifer: I think you've nailed the theme here. I love the color of your eyes and how well they fit with the rest of the colors in this photo. I'm not as thrilled with your expression but that's more personal preference than anything. I also think your hair styling works well here because it compliments the simplicity of the rest of the shot. Good work again this week!
Jensen: This is right up there with the best of the round. The scarf is fantastic, your face is fantastic, the modeling is great. You do look like you're strangling yourself but you're giving the photo some oomph that is greatly needed. I love the bone structure of your face and your eyes are really emoting.
Selena - Necklace
Bingbing: This is a shot of the younger you, but I don't mind the excessive youth here because you've styled it with maturity. The necklace is definitely the most noticeable accessory in the shot despite you playing with your earring. The quality detracts from the photo a bit, but it's overall well done.
Amanda: The cuteness here really, really works well. You have an adorable face - so happy you didn't go with sunglasses after last week - and you're showing it off marvelously here. You have the earrings too, but it's the necklace I'm drawn to. And I want one. That color is striking on you, too. Even if the quality is off a smidgen (only a smidgen), I don't really have any issues with this. Great job!
Emma: This is a case where I do feel like the quality of the shot kind of hinders the overall feel of what you're going for. I was going to complain that you look too young here, but you really sold it well, with a mature sense of fashion, and an appropriate face/pose. I am a little stuck on you playing with your earring, but in the end, this is a good shot for me. Not great, but good. And I agree with Jensen, Selena is looking a little too "Mickey Mouse Club" for me in her avatar.
Jennifer: I agree that you are selling the necklace really well. I like how you are coyly playing the your earring in a flirty sorta way. It's enticing, and helps to draw me into the photo even more. You're giving good neck but it could be better, I would be curious to see this shot with your body slightly turned, that might make it stronger. As for your face, I like it. Your eyes also stand out so I think it is a good shot from a modeling perspective as well. Good work!
Jensen: Can Selena get a new avatar? She looks 12 lol The quality is a bit grainy but I really love the sweet young innocence of this photo. The necklace is cute and there.
Tulisa - Shoes
Bingbing: The pop of green on your shoes is a nice touch and it does help draw some attention there. I like your posing and I like that your fashion is interesting. Your face is a little off-putting to me, though. It just seems to lack a bit of emotion. That seems like something you might need to keep an eye on in this game. It's nothing that can't be overcome, though. Kristen Stewart won a game Amanda and I judged after she got similar comments from Amanda and me multiple times.
Amanda: Unfortunately, I must agree with J-Law here. I don't like this. I do like it when models take risks, but in this case it didn't pay off. This is way too busy, your face is dead, something about this seems too... oily or greasy, the pose looks uncomfortable, I don't like the pants, I don't like how you're showcasing your shoes, the wall is stark white... I think I've said enough. Sorry Tulisa, but I really don't like this.
Emma: I don' think I hate this as much as the others, but I don't love it either. There are things I really enjoy, but I wish your pose were as sharp as the lines in the photo. The accessory is awesome, and does stand out with the lime green (a favorite color of mine), but yeah, it's a little sloppy from the face to the waist.
Jennifer: Holy lines Batman! I've already mentioned to other models about having 'busy' shots, but you take the crown this week for busiest shot. I'm up in the air if it's too much though. The added color really helps draw attention to your shoes which is good given what the challenge was this week. I do know, I'm not sold on your pose. It looks awkward and judging from your facial expression, probably feels pretty awkward too. I like that you took a risk, but unfortunately, it didn't work for me this week.
Jensen: The shoes are amazing. The way you're posing and showcasing them is also amazing. This photo could have been such a home run. But..........yea but..........your face is so RED and lackluster. I don't like the jacket because it's solid black, doesn't go with the white and black stripped pants, which are so awesome. From the hips down, this picture is awesome, from the hips up, such a disaster. I'm sorry
Yoon - Shoes
Bingbing: I'll be echoing a few other judges here when I say that this shot would have been perfect with a little more cropping. The shoes are wonderful, the outfit is fantastic, I love your posing, it's a different side of you than we've seen before, and it's just overall a great shot. Without the guys at the top or the watermark at the bottom right, this round be my undoubtedly top shot for the round. Still, you'll be damn high in my rankings.
Amanda: It's raining men for you now, huh. I don't like that it's somewhat similar to last week in terms of posing, although reversed, but that aside, this is very good. I did not expect blonde hair from you and it's a pleasant surprise, really. You have strong fashion and modeling here and the concept is unique. I like the shoes but don't love them - perhaps that's because of the black background making parts of them (like the heels) hard to see. Still, this is a very strong outing for you and I do hope you can continue showing us diversity... and more amazing stuff because then I, too, would be pro-Yoon. Great work!
Emma: This photo would be a 10 if you'd cropped out the men and the writing in the bottom corner as Jensen said. I was thinking the same exact thing before I read his critique. As Amanda pointed out, the pose is similar to last week, which isn't bad, as long as you give us variety in the future. One of the strongest this week, but take into consideration your cropping in the future. There are many free websites that let you crop photos, and I think that would have helped you immensely here!
Jennifer: Nice description, though at some point I would like to see you standing up.
Again, another excellent shot from you Yoon. I think you pop in a lot of places, the hair, the lips, the bow on your thigh, and your shoes. All of which, work well together and aren't too over powering. I would have chosen the bow on your lace stockings as your accessory because my eyes were drawn there first, plus it's a unique product to sell. Nonetheless, this is beautiful and quite possibly my favorite this round. Keep submitting shots like this and you'll keep me in your cheering section.
Jensen: I wish you would have cropped out all the butts because they're a distraction. And then cropped the sides so that we're just on you. The excessive black is just driving me nuts. I can't concentrate. I love how you're showcasing your legs and shoes. I wasn't sure which was your accessory though, the shoes or the stockings lol I love Yoon and you never disappoint. Good job overall.
We'll start off by critiquing all of the photos this round.
Deepika - Sunglasses
Bingbing: I'm not going to worry about the cropping issue that's being debated here since you can't crop much without starting to cut off your own body parts and we don't want you to go that far in this game.
