Welcome everyone to the ninth round critiques. This round, we wanted you all to show off a strong sense of color.
Let's see how you all did.
Let's see how you all did.
Deepika - Orange
Bingbing: The bright orange is prominent in the photo and your dress is beautiful, so as fas as I'm concerned, you're good on the theme this week. I have no problems with the posing and your expression is fine. I don't find any overwhelming emotion moving me here, but it's a very solid photo. When it comes to the greenscreen, when the possibility is pointed out to me, my eyes can start to see it, but I'm not convinced there is one, and if there is, then it was done well.
Amanda: Is it just me, or does this photo look green-screened? That really ruins the potential intimacy of this shot. I also feel somewhat bored by this - like J-Law, I don't see you having brought anything new to the table here. It's not bad, honestly, but it could be so much more than this. I think it's the green screen that makes this inferior to some of what you've already submitted, though. It doesn't look natural to me.
Emma: This is good. I see where my fellow judges are coming from though. There are a few minor mechanical issues, but otherwise, I tihnk you have continuously shown us your strength. I don't see you going anywhere anytime soon. Keep up the good work, and keep working to find those WOW pictures!
Jennifer: Another strong submission for you Deepika. I love the color choice, very vibrant and attention getting. Your face however, I feel like we've seen it before. It works well with this shot but I hope you are going to be able to pull out something new and unique next round. We're starting to get down to the wire here and posting a good shot will not necessarily be enough to get you thru to the next round. Good work this week!
Jensen: I love this Deepika, I dont' know what the others mean by it looking like something we've seen before. Anyway, good job.
Bingbing: I don't think anyone will be able to argue that you haven't met the requirements of the theme. I love your fashion and your lack of neck doesn't bother me here since I can easily attribute it to the shadow rather than you just looking like you don't have one. The stiffness in the face has been commented on and it's a problem for me, too. I also feel like the posing could have been a bit better. It's a nice shot, but not the most striking photo.
Amanda: Well, you've nailed your color, that's for sure. I don't mind the no-neck as much in an all-black photoshoot, but still... no neck. That combined with your face makes it look like you're choking - not that there's anything wrong with the face, it's just an odd combination. I don't really have much of a problem with this shot otherwise - it does what it needs to do, but it doesn't go above and beyond that. At this stage in the competition, you really need to bring your A-game and this falls somewhat short of that. It's still good though!
Emma: I think my biggest complaint is that you look a little too stiff for me. The color choice is fine, and yes, we can't see your neck, but I think that's part of the shadowy feel to the photo. The face is where I'm stuck, since we saw what I thought was good face last week. Not bad by any means, but always room for improvement!
Jennifer: I like this but it is not my favorite. I like that black outfit and how it makes the white of your skin pop. However, I feel like parts of your body that are covered in the black blend in to the background. Your face is strong but a bit boring to me. Overall, not your best, but still a good shot.
Jensen: Now THERE is the Keira I know can rock this game. This is fantastic. You look gorgeous and I love all the little pops of colour that make you stand out (lips, skin) Very good job! Definitely your best to date.

Keira - Black

Madonna - Red
Bingbing: The color red isn't in-your-face obvious here as some less obvious shades of red and some purple are prominent in the photo. However, the red is there, noticeable, and driven home by the embodiment of the color. I definitely like your expression here and there's a nice level of memorability here. Definitely a step back in the right direction.
Amanda: Something about this seems... sweaty. I'm not sold on the quality, either. I also don't know if this works 100% for a colour shoot - I see red, yes, but there's purple too. I like this since everything else really sells what you are going for well, but I don't love it.
Emma: I LOVE that expression. But, on the flipside, I don't get red when I see this. If I knew this was a color shoot and I didn't know what color you had picked, I'd have guessed pink/magenta first off, which... is close to red. But there's so much other color that stands out here, especially with that pop of light. I get more of a sunset feel, which embodies pinks, oranges, purples, IMO. GREAT photo, otherwise, just a bit weak on the literal theme connection. I get the metaphorical connection, but when other colors stand out so vividly, it's hard to see red here, even if the metaphor works.
Jennifer: I like this a lot! I like the use of color as a way to make this shot stand out. And while it is not completely red, it definitely works. Your description also really helps, I see the emotions you pointed out and it really helps to pull your shot and color together. Well Done!
Jensen: I love this and I love how soft your face is and how stunning as well. Just love this a lot.
Bingbing: You don't have as much of a your color in your shot when compared to the other models, but it's there and meets the requirements of being a white shot for me. I love the posing, I love the contrast between your hair and your dress. I don't mind your face here (don't see the problem), but I do agree with Jennifer that it's the weaker point of the photo. I have to say that I do think this is a solid submission, but we're getting down to the wire and we'll just have to wait and see if solid is enough.
Amanda: We're reaching the end of the competition here, and you give us this? I was expecting more. I don't see a color shoot - yes, your dress is white, but nothing else controllable is. That tattoo in your wrist is distracting, your face could be so much more, and although the pose is definitely modelling, I really want more at this stage of the game. I'm worried for you this round :/
Emma: I mostly agree with Amanda. The pose is great. I like the modeling you are giving us. But just because your dress is white, I don't get an overwhelming sense of "white" from this. White is a color that you need to really consume us with for it to stand out. Had you been wearing a brightly colored dress, I feel like the color would have spoken more for itself. But white is a very common color, so you needed something more than just the dress. Not a bad picture, but you've gotta really be careful to not misstep this late in the game, becase the smallest things can cost you!
Jennifer: Another solid shot here. I particularly like your pose, it is different than some of the other photos you have submitted and it works for me. White also suits you well (though it would be better if you had a bit more of a tan but alas). Your face is the weak spot here but overall, still an solid submission. Just be careful, we're starting to get to the end and good submissions may not be enough to carry you through. Good work!
Jensen: Megan No, this is not good. I'm so sorry. Not for a colours shoot and not at this stage in the game. This is just too boring and not enough. I am so so so so sorry.

Selena - Blue
Bingbing: I love that this shot paints a scene without looking like a screenshot. I think sometimes models have trouble giving us a scene from a story while keeping it in the modeling realm, but you really pulled it off. I like that the blue is connected between both you and your car. I love the dress and there's a nice retro feel to this shot. You have a bit of ugly face going on here, but overall, this is a very strong photo.
Amanda: Congratulations, Selena. I have absolutely nothing to say. You have shut me up.
Emma: Va-Va-Voom! There she is, back at the top. Selena, this is great. You showed us how to pull in a color with not only your dress, but also the rest of the photo. And your sexiness level is off the charts. Well done, my love!
Jennifer: YES! This is excellent! I absolutley love it! You totally pop in this shot, I love the color choice (without overdoing it), the fact that you match the car and your modeling is on point. This is easily my favorite shot this round. I've been warning some of the other models to bring their A game as we approach the finish line. You, clearly, do not need that warning. GREAT WORK!
Jensen: Very nice Selena. I love the pose, I love the colouring, I love the body and face. Even though everyone ELSE hated the head tilt last round, I didn't and I think you always look so sexy with a head tilt. Everything looks very natural, really like this a lot.
