Welcome everyone to the eighth round critiques. This round, we wanted you all to show us your best formalwear.
Let's see how you all did.
Let's see how you all did.
Deepika
Bingbing: I am in love with your shot this round. The dress is fantastic, I love the pose, and I love the angles you're giving us. The over-the-shoulder look is done really well here. Yeah pop against that strong blue background, too. Great work.
Amanda: Well then, I guess I've been shut up. A++++.
Emma: I really like this. The fashion, the pose, the execution are all awesome. If I had to pick on anything at all, I'd as what those thin lines are on the right of the picture. Only slightly distracting when I was actually looking for something to pick out as a negative. But really, it's a good picture. Well done, Deepika!
Jennifer: This is an excellent shot, everything about it is striking. The pose, dress, your hair, the modeling is all spot on. And the fact that my favorite color is blue is an added bonus. Great work here!
Jensen: THIS is a model pose!! Gorgeous all around, the dress is amazing, your pose is amazing, Your face is amazing. I love the fucking arms like that. I just love everything about this!
Bingbing: Definitely a beautiful dress; as Emma said, it's a bit reminiscent of a nightgown, but it's still lovely, anyway. I do like that you're giving us an action shot. I would have preferred to see you looking at the camera or doing something more to make it more obvious that this was a purposeful shot rather than a random shot in the middle of an action. However, you still look good in this photo, anyway. Overall, I like this.
Amanda: I like the hair, it fits. I see a soft innocence and that you're really rocking this. It's not the most formal dress in the world, as Emma said, but I can see it as being worn to a special occasion like a wedding (and this is a reception). I'm not sure about the in-action shot - you are moving and the stairs are white, which distract from the detail of your dress - but overall, I like it.
Emma: Keira, I think you look so beautiful in this picture. It's so soft and pretty, and that face, paired with your action in the photo, tells me a story. Wonderful job on all fronts except one: the theme. While this is an awesome shot, I don't get a sense of formality from it. The dress is a little too soft and nightgown-like for my taste. Not a bad picture by any means, but I feel like it could have been a bit more formal!
Jennifer: I instantly thought to describe this shot as having a playful formal-ness to it, if there is such a thing. To me it works and I like it, a lot actually. I think it was a risk to use an action shot given the theme here but it paid off. Great job!
Jensen: I would love to just cut your head right off lol I'm not loving the hair in this photo at all. The rest is good. I love the dress and the way you're in action without looking horrible. Good job.

Madonna
Bingbing: Yeah, the quality is off, but that's already been commented on. Oddly, I like the "bitch, please" posing of this shot. The dress looks nice, even if you look miserable wearing it. It has a nice retro Hollywood feel to it.It's not the most memorable photo, though, and definitely a little bit of a let-down when compared to your past shots.
Amanda: Yeah, I would have liked this in color with a sharper quality to it. I wish the dress was more striking the way the pose is - really, the pose is the best part. You have attitude. I do want to see more shoes since they appear to be yummy. I can't say I see this on the level of you we're used to, but I am still okay with it.
Emma: You have been one of our most consistent models in this game, but I'm not gonna lie, this picture isn't up to what I've come to expect from you. I don't know if it's the quality or the B&W, but I almost get a sort of an Addams Family vibe from the overall composition here. You're looking ok in the picture, albeit a little bored. Overall, it's not bad, but I definitely wouldn't rank it with the rest of your portfolio.
Jennifer: I agree with the judge's critiques before me. What first stood out to me was the part where your head (particularly your hair) blend into the background. While I am not as big a stickler for quality, I do like the subject and the background to be clearly defined. Overall though, it is a good shot, just not the best.
Jensen: It is the quality. It's really horrible. I really love the fierce pose and the dress and touch of the shoes we can see. I'm sorry that I don't like this, but if you're not safe then we're horrible judges lol
Bingbing: The dress is nice to see, but wish we had a full body shot to see all of it. You're a bit over-accessorized and there's a bit too much makeup, too. However, I will remember this shot. You met the requirements for the theme, but it's not your strongest showing. I'd be surprised if you're in any trouble, though.
Amanda: I don't mind this being over-accessorized that much, as it's a unique look that works. However, that face is scaring me - in part because of the makeup. I am getting an "Isis" vibe from this - yes, the Egyptian goddess. I thus like this, but don't totally see you selling the "formal" look here because of the makeup and expression. Or maybe the hair too. You shouldn't worry though!
Emma: I love some of this, but I also hate some of this. Let's get the negatives out of the way first... You look scary. Like, you remind me of the lady who played Malificent when I was a kid and went to Disney World. She scared the shit outta me. For a formal shot, I don't know if "scary" is what I'm wanting to see as a judge. Your face is a bit off, and maybe that's what's adding to the scariness. Your eyes look like you're wearing those contacts that make them white or something. But anyways, onto the positives... Your fashion is awesome. Perhaps a bit avant garde even! Either way, it works for me. You nailed the theme in my opinion, but came up short on the modeling aspects. Not a bad job though.
Jennifer: I don't immediately get formal wear from this. It is interesting but it doesn't exactly look like something I would expect to see on a red carpet. It is a risk and I give you that for taking it but I'm just not feeling it. Nonetheless, I have been incredibly impressed this competition with your range given my preconceived notions about your modeling shots.
Jensen: I really liked this when it was used for a different theme in a different game. But for formal, I'm not completely sold. It's an artistic shot, and I love the dress. Your modeling is actually good, I don't think you fell short on it at all. Maybe if we chopped your head off with Keira lol Your face and head are fine, it's just the eyes lose all the formal for me here.

Bingbing: I think I would have liked to have seen a full body shot for you this round. We do get to see enough of what you're wearing to recognize that it fits the formal theme. Not a big fan of the use of the cigarette, either. Like Emma, I do like that you're giving us an action here. I'm just a bit surprised to see this as your submission. You're someone I'd expect to have a plethora of shots to chose from for this theme (I could be mistaken) and I feel like you could have had a stronger outing.
Amanda: Classic James Bond look? Sean Connery era? I like that. But at the same time, it sort of dates this shot in a way. Cigarettes are disgusting, and although they were mainstream at formal events in the 60s, for today I don't know. It's not artfully done. I like the action, at least, but I would like to see a full outfit. This is the kind of theme we want to see as much as possible with. I'm not completely sold on this - it's merely just okay for me.
Emma: Cigarettes.... ew. (Hey, Jennifer Lawrence, remember that time I slapped you in the face and told you that you smelled like ugly when you were smoking a cigarette? Yeah, that actually happened). I digress. Nico, I like that you have a bit of action in your shot. A guy standing around in a suit, while sometimes sexy, can be pretty boring. Men's formal wear is never as interesting to look at as women's, so I appreciate you trying to add a bit to the picture. On the downside, I'm not a fan of the angle of your face and the way you're looking. Also, your mouth just looks odd because of the cigarette. Wish we could have seen more of your body, as well. You know I love you though, but I'm not loving this picture as much as I normally like yours.
Jennifer: I love a shot with a sexy, dressed up man smoking a cigarette, so while this may not be most elegant way to include it in your shot, I still like it. I realize I'm one of few who think like this but hey, at least you have one strong fan in your arsenal here. Nice job! (Emma Watson thanks for that by the way, now the online community can shame me too haha).
Jensen: Cigarettes only work when done artfully, I don't like it in this case. But past that gross stick in your mouth lol You look great and I love this, but a half shot hurts what could have been the best shot.

Bingbing: Not the biggest fan of the angle of your face this round, but it's one you haven't given us before, so for that alone, I like it now. There's a very slight quality issue around the face, but that could also just be due to the natural lighting since shots with natural lighting tend to have a bit of a harsher look. That stuff aside, this shot is fantastic. Definitely one of the best this round.
Amanda: I'm with Bingbing on the angle of your face, and also those closed eyes - they really don't work well together here. The quality is a tad off, too. But aside from those... you really are bringing it hardcore. You have an amazing body and are showing off everything like a true model would. You may not be getting FCO because Deepika managed to shut me up, but if you don't get second this round, I will be livid.
Emma: Honey, you're serving us some runway realness! Easily the most interesting picture to look at this round. I get personality, confidence, and beauty all in just my first glance. I will say your face is a bit hard to see all the details, but that's a minor thing because your body is speaking for itself. As well, I guess I've come to realize I'm not that much of a fan of photos that have a sort of monochromatic feel to them. This all looks a little washed out with the sidewalk, your dress, and your skin being similar in color. Either way, just something small to point out. Back to the praises... this is another great photo in my opinion.
Jennifer: Excellent! I love the face, the dress, setting, everything. I love that you look older (and thus more fitting of attending something involving formal wear), it makes the clothes work better. I know it has been said before but the whole shot is just really interesting to look at and I have to second that, I ended up looking at your photo the longest this round and that's a good thing! The only complaint I have is the monochromatic color palette, you start to blend together a little with the background but it's such a strong submission I don't notice it as much. Great work!
Jensen: Let me just say, that if it weren't for Deepika.......you'd be the best of the bunch. Nuff said!
