Welcome everyone to the seventh round critiques. This round, we wanted you all to come up with your very own mutants.
Let's see how you all did.
Let's see how you all did.
Deepika
Bingbing: I love how you went about completing this shoot. You're portraying a power that would be hard to show in a photo that wasn't heavily shopped, but you're doing it in a shot that's not heavily shopped. Love the vision to see the other women behind as extensions of yourself due to the layering. I agree that it's nice we're also getting to see another side of you. If I had one complaint, it's that it looks a bit more like a screenshot than a modeling shoot, but besides that, great job.
Amanda: Not sure about the lighting here, but that aside... amazing, A+, great work, love it
Emma: Deepika, this is divine! I love your face most of all. That smile is awesome and shows a softer side of you. Normally, I remember your faces being a little more stoic and strong. This is a nice change. I feel like the fashion is a tad costumey for a mutant, or perhaps just not costumey in the right way, since mutants do tend to have costumes. I like how your fashion represents your heritage, but I wish that were tied in a bit more with your power. Either way, this is a great submission!
Jennifer: This is wonderful and I absolutely love it! It is nice to see you having a more playful face in this shoot than in some shots I've seen in the past from you. Well done!
Jensen: Bravo!!! This is gorgeous. I love your body and your pose. And the arms are all fabulous. The outfit is really cool as well. Very good work!!
Bingbing: I don't know if this is from the screenshot you asked me if you were allowed to use, but if it is, then you've done a great job selecting one that looks like a modeling shoot. We may be missing your legs and the lighting is a bit off, but other than that, this shot is great. You've met the theme well, you took a smart, calculated risk, and you mostly look good doing it. Great work.
Amanda: Not sure on the hair here, and yeah, the modelling is off, but you're underwater and that's hard to do like at all. You are taking a big risk here and it's paying off. THIS is the Keira I wanted to see - great work!
Emma: You took a HUGE risk here, Keira, but it was the right risk, IMO. The modelling is a little bit compromised, but I blame that mainly on the fact that this is an under-water photo. But that face, and those long arms are to die for! I do wish, like Jensen, that we could see your legs, but overall, I like this photo and it works for the theme.
Jennifer: This is a very impressive shot. Anytime you involve an underwater element to a shoot there is a much greater chance of failure. Not in this case though, you are modeling like a pro here and I love it. The way you are interacting with the water really pulls it together as an element you can control. Well done!
Jensen: Finally! Fierce and modelling to a T!! The only negative thing I have to say about this is you are missing your legs. But I can live with that. This photo is wonderful and you definitely look like you're manipulating the water and all it's wildlife.

Madonna
Bingbing: The face is just very slightly wonky like a few other judges have mentioned, but that aside, I do think this is a great shot for this round. I could see that being your costume in the Marvel universe, the posing is interesting, and I like how you incorporated the prop in the background into your power.
Amanda: I'm not sold on this. Like Emma, I feel that your face leaves a LOT to be desired. The rest of this is great, no question, but your bored, stoic statue face there doesn't really scream fierce at ALL to me. I have nothing more to add, though - good work!
Emma: I absolutely love everything about this... except for your head/face. The outfit is superb. The pose and modelling are spot on. I just wish you had a bit more expression in your face as it's a bit blank. And that part in your hair is a little too distracting for me. These are minor complaints though, especially when considering the rest of the photo. You are even showing a bit of muscle in your arms, which, for a normal shot, might make you look too masculine, but for a mutant shot, it works well! Amazing job!
Jennifer: As always, another strong submission for you here, strong body and pose. An excellent outfit to boot but I have to agree with Amanda and Emma that your face leaves a little much to be desired. I just feel like we've seen it before and considering how high you have set the bar in this competition, I have slightly higher expectations when you submit. Overall, another excellent submission for you, congrats!
Jensen: I love this photo. Who needs an explanation with a photo like this. You're modeling is fanfuckingtastic!! The outfit is hot! You're FIERCE with a capital F. Absolutely the best photo so far!
Bingbing: I see this fitting the character you're pitching perfectly. You look great in the shot, too. As Amanda touched on, I'm not sure your character is a mutant by your description, but I could see her fitting in the universe, none-the-less. Jensen's already mentioned the tattoo working to enhance your image, but I think the red lips definitely help, too. Overall, I think you did well with this.
Amanda: Not a mutant shot. I see zero connection to the theme - yes I see a character, but I'm not impressed by the thematic connection. Your modeling is strong, but this wasn't the right time to use this photo. Especially when you were late... :/
Emma: I like the photo overall, but I think that your description is the only thing that really sells the mutant theme. I don't get an overall mutant feel from the photo alone. Otherwise, it's sexy and a strong modeling presence for you. Not a bad job, Megan!
Jennifer: I have to second Emma here. This is a strong photo and I like the modeling element to it but the connection to your theme is a bit of a stretch. I like that you took a risk, I just don't think this was the photo to do so with.
Jensen: This is one of my all time favourite shoots for you. You are the sexiest woman alive in this. I love the edgier you, not that I don't love the sexy, cuz I do lol What works for you is that you've sold this photo with your dossier. I totally get what you're going for. I love that we can see the tattoos as well, adds to the bad girl vibe you're going for.
Note From Host: Megan wasn't late. She asked me over AIM when the new deadline was since I hadn't posted it when I granted the extension. I said "Because I had forgotten to give a new deadline, just get it in as soon as possible."

Nico
Bingbing: The modeling in this photo is fantastic and you've done a great job selling it. The problem comes from the disconnect between that and the theme (as you already know). I'm not really sure I see the connection between your mutant ability and what we see in the shot. This round will be a matter of how we balance how great your shot itself is and the connection to the theme.
Amanda: I have nothing more to add. This is A-level modeling, but I don't see a mutant. I too am starting to question your versatility, but that's not a problem for me. I like this, but I don't love it, and the theme is why. That and I don't find this to be your most memorable photo, either.
Emma: Nico, I've been a fan since day 1. And really, you don't have any "bad" pictures. But, we have seen you struggle to make strong thematic connections on more than one occasion... this being one of them. I'm really worried that your lack of diversity in your portfolio (a struggle mainly associated with being a male contestant against all females) is going to sneak up on you. Like I said, I really like the modeling in this picture, and it's a good picture. I just feel like the mutant connection is quite a bit of a stretch. It will definitely cost you in that regard, but I don't think anybody can argue that you at least are consistent in putting forth quality shots. Your effort isn't going unnoticed. Keep digging!
Jennifer: Ditto to the judges before me. Strong modeling, loose theme connection. Not my favorite shot of yours to date but I it is good nonetheless. I do commend your efforts considering the challenges of playing as a male model when up against female models. You keep holding your own and that alone is impressive.
Jensen: Hmmm I'm not sure how I feel here. The modeling is great. I understand your struggles. I can buy that this is a victory pose I think lol Sorry I'm just not sure how much I buy the overall theme.

Selena
Bingbing: This reminds me of Niki Sanders from Heroes. I do like the idea for the mutant ability and you executed it really well. I love how completely contrasting each version of you is. I also wouldn't have noticed the MTV award had it not been pointed out. The posing might be a bit bland from you (especially the one on the right), but there's enough going on here with the theme that I don't care. You pulled this off really nicely. I've been the hold-out among the judges when it comes to loving you, but this shot has won me over.
Amanda: That MTV trophy is indeed unnecessary, and I like good backstory - it can work for this picture. I like the yin/yang approach, and I can see the alter ego thing just fine. I don't like the headband in the mirror picture (I always find bandana headbands tacky as per personal preference), but that aside... great concept, great execution, and solid modeling. Great job!
Emma: I'm going to have to disagree with Jensen. I don't think that we HAVE to be able to see the power in the picture. For instance, some powers aren't visible just from seeing a picture. For that reason, I think that it fits fine with what you've written. I love how your "main" character is in the forefront, looking innocent and unaware of the "mutant" who is in the reflection behind her. There is a bit of a disconnect with your "mutant's" fashion, as it's a bit too much "Rosie the Riveter" for me. And the MTV trophy distracts me. Otherwise, I love this picture, and yours was one of the biographies I was most interested to read just from first glance. Good job!
Jennifer: I love a photo that draws you in and that's exactly what happened here. I didn't even notice the MTV award (at least not at first) because I was so busy trying to take both Selenas in. I think it works really well and presents an excellent visual to help further imagine your mutant. As far as the modeling is concerned, it is a bit bland, your faces are ones I feel like I've seen before but they are solid still, if not uber exciting. Well done overall!
Jensen: First, let me get the bad out of the way. Your dossier makes no sense with this photo. I know what you're going for, but it's not there. I was expecting like a replica mutant or something. Twins or something. Super Strength makes zero sense for your power based on this photo. That's what's wrong. Your dossier is just not good enough with this photo. What's good though, is this photo. It's one of my all time favourites of you. I love the yin and yang of the two images. You look so soft and serene and innocent in your main image and then your reflection is completely bad ass!!! This photo is flawless in every sense of the word.

Yoon
Bingbing: Scale is your biggest enemy in this shot; you're definitely too small to really take in and enjoy here. I do love the unique route you've taken this round to meet the theme, though. Points for creativity. You actually have the opposite problem as Nico this round: you hit the theme very well, but your execution suffered for it.
Amanda: I really do not like this, Yoon. I like the power... but that's about it. The unicorn in the background doesn't bother me, but how it's set up in this studio shoot does. The stark whiteness is distracting, the way you're wearing the wig looks off, and that face is just... no. You look dead. The fact that this looks suspended in midair hurts this considerably, too. I'm worried for you, Yoon. :/
Emma: The good thing... it's different. Some of the others came up with powers that we've all seen or heard of before, but yours is by far the most unique, in my opinion. As for the photo though, I'm not a huge fan. As Jensen pointed out, you are very small. As well, with the stark white photo (2nd week in a row where you used a lot of monochromatic color choices), I feel like your shoes are the focal point, as they really stand out. The modeling is fine, but there's just a level of execution missing for me.
Jennifer: I get you were trying to include the unicorn in the shot but I feel like it would have been better to have you zoomed in on instead. At this distance you get lost in the photo. While your mutant description is solid, I feel like it's representation in your photo is a bit of a stretch.
Jensen: Let me grab my magnifying glass so i can judge this properly. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like your pose but that's about it. The unicorn in the photo irritates me. Mostly because it looks like a horse (I KNOW I KNOW) and then because it looks so fake, and I mean, in the picture fake. But the main problem here is you are so tiny. I can't tell if your eyes are open, closed, or squinting. Not your best work Yoon, sorry
