Welcome everyone to the sixth round critiques. This round, we wanted you all to show the subtle differences between two similar emotions/traits.
Let's see how you all did.
Let's see how you all did.
Deepika - Feminine
Bingbing: I do like the route you both went here. The difference between Ladylike and being Feminine is not something I would have thought of, but it definitely works. Deepika, you have a bit of a quality issue here, but I really like this shot for the most part. Yeah, there's a lot going on in the shot, but I feel they're all things meant to enhance the femininity of the shot. Madonna, I'm completely fine with darker shoots and I'm sure you know I tend to respond well to them. I think my only criticism of the shot would be the posing. I feel like an upright pose could have felt a bit more ladylike. However, it's a small complaint. I like the contrasting feel of the photos despite the base thoughts of them still being very similar. Great work overall as a team.
Amanda: I do like this, but the thing that gets me is how you don't really stand out here because of how the colors are enveloping you. It's bright and girly - I get that - and it definitely fits the theme alongside Madonna's. And even though you look good even at such an awkward angle, that rug is kind of overbearing. Honestly, I think that's the only issue you have here. These two photos complement each other well and I have no further commentary
Emma: I'm going to state this, but you weren't the only one who fell into this category... I don't think that your "emotion" was as much of an emotion as it was an adjective to describe a person's personality/style/etc. You could, quite possibly, feel feminine, but when I think of emotions, I think more about feelings. But anyways, let's get onto the picture. I like you and your pose in the picture, but I do think it's a bit busy. Quality is a tad off, but not to the point where it detracts from the overall photo. In the end, it works, but there are a few minor setbacks for me.
Jensen: Yea, what Emma said. But for the picture and the connection, it's really beautifully done. I love your legs and your curves. Everything works very well for the theme you went with. There is so much that makes this photo feminine and then your beauty is so soft and tender in this photo. I really love this photo.

Madonna - Ladylike

Great work overall as a team.
Amanda: I like how your two photos complement each other along those fine lines. But like Deepika had - another similarity - you're getting swallowed and overshadowed by the black all around you. You have a hat on, but we can't see it because your brolly is also black. There's a lot of darkness in here that it somewhat distorts you stealing the show. Only somewhat. I'm just being nitpicky here, there isn't really anything bad about this, it's just not "WOWZA" for me because of how it's hard to see some of the detail. But it's coming pretty darn close
Emma: Personality trait vs. emotion. I'm not sure how much of a liberty should be allowed before points are docked, but I do think you guys did well to demonstrate a contrast. In comparison to Deepkia, I get a sense of feminism right away from her, but ladylike is not the first word that comes to mind when I see this. I see mystery and intrigue. I also get a sense of a rich, lavish lifestyle. Overall, the picture is nice, with just a few small issues, such as the posing and a loss of some lines in the dark contrast. Not bad though.
Jensen: I really like this a lot. I think we had the same problem last season with emotions and personalities being portrayed weird. Anyway, this is really gorgeous. I love the posing and the profile. I love the setting. Yes, I do agree you seem to be swallowed up by your setting but overall, this is really good.
Bingbing: It was definitely easy to tell which one of you was going for sultry and which was going for alluring. When it comes to your individual emotions/traits, Keira, I feel you pull it off better. I definitely feel your sultriness through this shot. Selena, I think the elements for alluring are there, but could have been taken a bit further. I also feel like your shot is a little too washed out by the lighting this round. Keira, I'm not the biggest fan of your legs being cut out of this shot. However, this is me nitpicking both of your shots since this is a pretty strong round. Overall, I do like both of the shots, but wanted to point out some areas to look at.
Amanda: I'd like a little more neck from you here - it's too dark around there. I also want to see more of your legs - not a fan of how this is cropped. Everything else here? Pretty solid. Not the most memorable in the park, but you and Selena do manage to make a pair of lines here. Nothing else for me to add - this is a step up for me and doesn't really have any major downsides to it. Only the smaller ones. Good work.
Emma: Keira, you are such an up and down model for me, and this is one of your ups. So good job on that. I still think your Avant Garde was your best to date, but this is really good from what I've seen this round. I definitely think you hit the "alluring" description with your gaze, and while alluring might not technically be what I consider an emotion, I think it's better than some of the others that were chosen this round. You should be fine with this, in my opinion!
Jensen: I don't like this one. I'm sorry. I think your head looks too big. Like a bobble head doll. Your expression looks forced to me. If I look at your body and not your head, I like it. The outfit is cute and the pose is sultry. I love the bare shoulder. Your face just ruins this for me, well, mostly the extra large head does.

Selena - Alluring
Amanda: Okay, so this photo is very, very white. We can barely see anything but you... and it kind of works. I totally see an innocent, alluring maiden here that's waiting for her prince. I really have no complaints here. Great work.
Emma: This is a little too washed out for me. As well, my complaint for most of the photos this round was that the idea of an emotion was stretched a bit too far. I'm not sure that alluring is what I would consider an emotion. With all that said, I do like the softness of this picture, and you're showing just the right amount of skin. That face is perfect, as well. Overall, this is solid.
Jensen: The stark white is annoying but who cares when you're dead center and looking hot as hell!! Can their avatars be changed now lol I feel like a dirty ol' man looking at her photos with that avatar. You are very alluring. Sexy, soft, serene. I really love this photo.
Bingbing: I do think part of this team will have a polarizing reaction and that'll be on Nico's part. Because you're depressed doesn't necessarily mean you're sad. The "apathy towards life" can be a huge part of it and looks to be what your team is showing off here with Nico's photo. Megan, I love your shot and it's easy to see the sadness here. I love the running make-up because it fits and it's something different. Nico, as Amanda touched on, this is a great black and white shot since it really enhances the mood of the shoot. Overall, I do like the aspects you two have shown off here because I don't think people always realize the difference between sadness and depression and you both did it well.
Amanda: The size is fine. I see sadness here, although the one thing I really don't like here is the blank studio background. I can't resonate with any kind of sadness if I don't have anything to go upon for a story - why are you sad? What's illing you here? I can't find that. I also find the black makeup-laden tears to be a bit too much, but it's not that bad. And yes, I like the hat, and the necklace too. Honestly, I don't see this as problematic much at all - I just see it as not what it could be. Good, but not great.
Emma: Boom! This is the first one where I really felt an emotion. Unlike Amanda, I don't need a setting for this. I teach children how to identify feelings and emotions for my job (elementary school counselor), and the first thing I teach them is to look for clues on the face and body. Your face is telling the story here. The smeared makeup helps, but I must say I'm a little lost in the fashion. I guess the extreme, bold fashion kind of takes away from a sense of sadness. Overall, this is the strongest emotion though, so props for that.
Jensen: I don't know what to say that Emma hasnt' said. Yes, your mascara helps sell it but I really feel the emotion coming through from your face. Your eyes, your mouth. I really enjoy this photo a lot. It's one of my favourites ever.

Megan - Sadness

Nico - Depression

Overall, I do like the aspects you two have shown off here because I don't think people always realize the difference between sadness and depression and you both did it well.
Amanda: Yes, this is how you do a B&W photo. It changes the mood for the better, which in all honesty... this photo sorely needs. I don't really see an intense depression as much as... apathy towards life due to deep thoughts. It's close to depression, yes, but if this photo were in colour, I wouldn't be seeing depression at all. Maybe a little rain outside would help? I don't know. I'm rambling again, aren't I? I really don't have anything else to say since this is good. Modeling, at least somewhat depressing, and, well, good. Thematically it works with Megan, so yup, nothing to add.
Emma: I really like the artistry of this photo, with the line of the window serving as a line of sight. It's a bit (just a bit) weak on being able to convey depression, but I see a good start, and depression is definitely an emotion, where as some of your competitors stretched the idea of emotions a little too far, in my opinion. I do think that Megan outshines you a little bit here, but thematic presence aside, this picture is one that I really like in a general sense. Having this in your portfolio is definitely a plus in my opinion.
Jensen: The problem with going after almost everyone else is that I feel like such a fucking parrot lol This is really good. In real life, I suffer from depression. I'm not always crying like Megan, sometimes I'm just down and void like you seem to be in this photo. Where Megan is showing us the sad part of life, you're showing how depression is so many other factors of sadness. I also see a touch of anger in your expression and that is something we also suffer from. Being angry at ourselves. This is really good work.

Tulisa - Snob
Bingbing: I was a bit confused when I saw Snob and Modest as your choices for the Fine Lines shoot. Now that I've read what both of you have said, I realize that this is a lot like it's the same woman, but two different ways she could behave. Not completely what I had in mind for this shoot, but I can see where you two are coming from. Tulisa, I can see the snobbery in this photo and you know what, I feel like you have a different face here. I love this shot. You're styled well and you look very high class. Yeah, more mansion and less studio would have been nice, but otherwise, I think this could be another strong round for you, Tulisa. Yoon, I saw in your team board that you are using your immunity to help benefit Tulisa this round and I respect your ability to be a great team player here. I'm not as in love with your shot, though. I can still see this as being a high class woman with some modesty, but it loses some impact with me. You look a bit too plain and there could have been a bit more from your posing. I do like the setting and the blindblown dress is something nice to look at, but I felt like there could have been more.
Amanda: I see a bit of a snob here, but I'm not sold on that face being snobby. Yeah, yeah, dead horse, etc. I want less studio shoot and more mansion setting too, but after that, no complaints. Works with Yoon's at least a bit, so overall, not bad!
Emma: Tulisa, I think you are the model who has grown the most so far in this competition. I don't agree that snob is an emotion at all, but that aside, I think your modeling is strong here. I do wish we'd see a bit more diversity in your shots, but I do like this overall. There's not much great or horrible that I can point out.
Jensen: This is a good modeling photo for sure. I love the curves of your body. I love the pose. I like that you're staring off to the side. I do not get snob at all though. You do look like a classic Hollywood actress though.

I do like the setting and the blindblown dress is something nice to look at, but I felt like there could have been more.
Amanda: I'm sort of underwhelmed by this because I see it as safe, but since you're immune and this is a pair shot, I understand safe. I don't know about you being that "rich" here - you may be at least middle class, but I don't know whether or not the jewelry or dress is valuable. I can't get that impression from what you're giving us here. Yes, I like the setting and I totally see a model, and I honestly don't have any issues here aside from with your explanation. I can't tell if you're wealthily modest or simply middle class. I still like it, but I don't love it.
Emma: I'm really not sure I get the connection to the theme here. I feel like you went more with a word describing a person than a word describing a way a person feels. You weren't the only one, so no worries there. As for the photo itself, I wish there was more of a color contrast between your skin, the outfit, and the sand. It's all just a little plain for me, but I guess that fits the idea of being modest. Ovearll, it's nice, but it doesn't wow me.
Jensen: I love the dress and the pose. I'm just not sure how I feel about the two of you (Tulisa and you) being a pair of fine lines. It's a good photo but.........I'm not sure how I feel really.
