Okay, once again, sorry for the delay.
This round, you were asked to submit either a "retro" or "futuristic" shot.
Jensen: I can see it. I mean, the suit makes me think of Olivia Newton John so I'm not 100% sold on futuristic here. And of course, smoke was a big part of the disco scene, which is again, ONJ. And the big lit up D is all wrapping it right back up to 70s. The shoes however, are very nice. The pose is nice. The photo is great, just not good theme wise. But you have no worries.
Amanda: Jensen may make a good point about Olivia, but when I first saw this, I totally thought cyberpunk, but at the same time... I do see Olivia in the late 70s or early 80s here. I really can't decide what this is - maybe this could be either? I love the shoes and I totally see your modeling potential here. It's not your best photo, but there really aren't many issues with it, either. Nothing to worry about here!
Emma: I like this photo, but the composition makes me feel a little like a repeat of last week with the standing pose and the lighting effects. Still, it's good. As for the theme, I do see how it can be futuristic. Not the strongest connection, but it works. Good job.
Jennifer: I do see the futuristic theme here that you are going for and I like it. The best part of the photo is your eyes, they stand out and are very strong. Not my favorite photo this week but a storng submission nonetheless. Good work!
Jensen: The styling is definitely old. The glasses make me think Buddy Holly. I see old fashioned cafe for sure. Your jaw structure is great. I love a great jaw line. This is good, but the quality is not. Quality is really bad and makes your face look weird. Otherwise, this is a really shot.
Amanda: Such really. Much Jensen. Wow. (Okay, sorry, I had to after that missing-a-word). James, I do see the theme here, but I'm very underwhelmed by this. Again, yes. I see the theme 100% but honestly, that's all this has going for it. Not a single thing stands out to me here. I don't see a model. I see a businessman sitting in a 1950s cafe. The quality is poor and makes this look like an old photo rather than a throwback. I want more from this James. I really do.
Emma: I agree with what Amanda is saying. Theme is fine. The modeling and shot are kind of forgettable, and the quality doesn't really help your cause. I, too, wanted so much more from you this week, James! Especially since you were so close to being eliminated.
Jennifer: Theme wise this week, you nailed it. However, as a modeling shot, its a bit 'meh'. The glasses sell the the theme perfectly but overall, this photo is just a bit too forgettable for me. I would have liked to see more action in this shot than just you sitting down and reading a news paper.
Jensen: I get it. Your upper body makes me think of a flapper, the frills,t he pearls, the hair. The skirt part though, doesn't make sense for me. It's too long and matronly for a flapper. Your hair looks fake on you, it's definitely not for you that style. I like your leg here, very nice. This isn't a bad job at all, but not great either. We need great Keira back.
Amanda: I do see this as a throwback of sorts, but the hair looks off to me. Perhaps it's Photoshopped? And by that, I mean I can visibly SEE that it's been altered. I don't know what you're going for here, either - it's a mix of things. And that's probably why I feel so mixed about this. I really don't have anything more to add... :/
Keira: I don't photo shop any photo. I don't even know how. So, I'd rather not be accused of doing so. I thought the hair looked quite retro to the styles of long ago and the way that some hollywood starlets wore their hair . That's what I was going for.
Amanda: I never accused you of being the one who did it. That was most likely done by the studio that took it. Sorry if that came off in the wrong way...
Jensen: No one accused you of doing it. But about 99% of all photos out there are photo shopped by someone. This is just noticeably done.
Emma: You look great in the photo, and you give us good retro. I dislike the sky, wish you would have cropped more off the top, and feel like you're being swallowed by the environment here in this photo. It's an improvement from last week though!
Jennifer: I actually really like this shot. I agree with some of the other judges that you should have cropped part of the sky out and made you more of the focus of the shot but I still think you are really good. I'm not a huge fan of the background, it clashes more than it compliments but again, I think you are doing well in the shot and that, to me, is the most important part.
Jensen: You know what. I came to the site today and just KNEW you were going to use this photo. I have no idea why, but I just knew it. I think I used it for a dream theme but this really works well for Futuristic. If we imagine that people of the future dress really weird and silvery and shiny, then we can totally buy this. I image you walking around with this headpiece on. You look gorgeous. And your face is amazing. Loving your eyes here.
Amanda: If people of the future wear ugly in-your-face things like that, then they're nuts. The whole point of hats is to NOT be disruptive in the way this is. I don't know whether to buy it or not given that. But really that's the only thing. Your eyes, the modeling, the potential - only potential - for the theme. Really a pretty good job here!
Emma: I'm liking this photo, minus the mouth. You look so unhappy and mean just from the mouth. I don't know if it screams futuristic, but it's interesting. You should be fine this week.
Jennifer: You are easily one of the most consistent models thus far and I am impressed every time I see what you have submitted. Good job on that, its not easy to be a hit every week. I do like this shot. The headpiece does feel a little out of place for me, almost as if the shot was taken without her wearing it and added later but it still works. Everything else about this photo is spot on. Another strong submission, well done.
Jensen: You definitely have the elegant good looks of a woman of classic Hollywood. The steering wheel is helping sell this point as well. Because honestly, I thought this photo looked quite futuristic. You look gorgeous and I really love your sultry eyes here.
Amanda: Except for that thing on your arm, I see retro. I see the 1950s I think it is. And yes, very sultry, very modelesque... gorgeous. You look a tad tired here, not sure why, and again, I don't like that thing on your arm but those aside this is very good for me.
Emma: Crop off that bottom, since it's such an easy fix. Little things like that don't typically change your placement in a round, but they sometimes can. And when you can get rid of them easily, do it! As for everything else, I really like this. Your eyes are a bit too closed, but they don't ruin the photo for me. Good job, Megan.
Jennifer: I do like this but for some reason it is just not jumping out to me as a stellar submission this round. I think its the too similar colors between your outfit and the setting, you/your body get lost in the car and that part of this shot doesn't work for me. However, I do like the old time car (thank you steering wheel for making that clear) and your outfit is simple, yet elegant. Good job.
Jensen: Dude, I saw this and knew it was retro, but then you had to ruin it by saying it was early 2000? You totally look like James Dean here. The tattoo of a sailor is also fitting to that time frame. You've got an Elvis vibe going on as well. I really like this photo, you have the classic movie star good looks here. Next time do a bit of research to pick a better era tho. Yea the vest is modern, but the rest is not.
Even these guys know it's 50s styling
dexterhs.younglife.org/Home%20Page/Dexter%20Guys2.JPG
Amanda: Um... you say retro, then you go with a time that's... not retro? What? "Retro" isn't 2000. That's still recent enough! This is easily the 50s or early 60s. Yes, Elvis and Dean. The tattoo is a tad big for my liking, as it's a distraction from you, but that aside the photo's good. I do think you picking the wrong decade is a near attempt at seppuku, and that's a pretty big problem that will hurt you quite a bit here.
Nico: omg guys... wiki totally fucked me up hahaha.. totally thought i read that retro refers to the last 15-20 years... but it says "a vintage of at least 15-20 years"... dammit if I realized I couldve sold the james dean aspect I totally could've done it perfectly... I mean i have a james dean look-a-like shoot.. all well, this one still works!!! haha whoops
studying for exams are taking a toll on me.. i can't think straight lmao
I still think it looks 90s... something i'd wear in the 90s... but it could also be a 50s/60s look. The hair, the rolled up sleeves, the bad boy attitude.. I chose this photo because it felt retro for me. Take of it what you will.
Emma: I'm just going to ignore your description, because, without it, I still saw retro in my own way. And sometimes, it's about what different people see from different perspectives. This isn't a bad photo, but it's not my favorite of yours. I don't know why, and I can't really pick out anything that I strongly dislike. I just think it's a little boring, perhaps? I don't see how you won't make it through still. Good job.
Jennifer: I could be talked into the 90s with this outfit. Partially because that decade was a lot of solid colors (like your all blue vest) and as a history nerd, I judge time on the surroundings too, and those cars in the background would not pass off as 50s era so I can be persuaded if your description is strong enough to go with you (even if it may not be 100% accurate haha). For the actual shot, I second Emma in that it is a tad boring for me. It doesn't help that I am not the biggest James Dean fan (sorry ladies of the world). However, this is still a good submission and with your track record already, I'm sure you'll come back and wow everyone soon.
Jensen: Hmmmm I'm not sure how I feel about this. First, your legs are gorgeous. Love them, I really do. The rest, not sure. pin up girl doesn't really suit you :X The hair is atrocious on you. The pose is nice and the theme has been nailed, and you look fine, I'm just not loving you over all. But you don't need to worry.
Amanda: This works for the theme very easily, but that hair is so fake. It looks wrong. Yes, it's a surprise and a risk, especially for a Hispanic model. But you don't pull the blonde off the way Yoon did. I don't hate it as much as Jensen. I think this is overall a good homage and the legs are hot enough to sell it. It's not bad. It's just not wowing me either since something here just doesn't look right... not sure what it is.
Emma: I really like this actually. It does seem a little on the fake side, obviously, but it works for me. If I could change anything, it'd be the background. The rest is A+, in my opinion!
Jennifer: That hair, I can't even. But aside from that, you hit this theme outta the park. Plus your little history fact about fabric, even better. Your face is exactly how I would expect a 1940s pinup girl to be and it really pulls the whole thing together from being a corny, hot mess, to actually selling a product from a different era. Well done!
Jensen: At first glance I thought this was retro, the outfit, but then I seen the setting and the shoes, and I get it. I really like this shot. It's probably your best to date, except...............yes you know what I'm going to say lol You're like the Asian guys of ANTM Male celebrity. You just don't have another expression lol The pose is amazing, the way you're showcasing those gorgeous legs! The quality is off, but the photo is very good.
Amanda: I thought this was 1980s too. The scientific-meets-video-games thing. But the shoes look more Star Trek than anything, so although that is a Sci-Fi mainstay, it's still sci-fi. And like Jensen, I do still want more versatility in your expression, but maybe that can't be helped? You do look like a model still, and although I too see some fuzz around the photo, I happen to be fine with it overall. I don't think you should be concerned this week.
Emma: Yup, I also thought initially that this was retro. But, alas, I do see why this works. I'm enjoying the photo overall. I might have cropped a tad off the sides. As for your face, I think it's been worse in the past, so no complaints from me on that.
Jennifer: I too, initially thought 90s here with the shapes and bold, solid colors. Your description sells it though. And who can dislike a strong pose like that? Coupled with those beautiful legs, you got a strong shot on your hands. Despite a similar face to past submissions, I still think you've done well here. Good work!
Jensen: I love this photo Yoon. I actually got a futuristic vibe from this. Maybe the stark white setting or your pose. Not sure, but I really like this photo. You're really starting to come into your own. Good job!
Amanda: Hmmm, I play a lot of Japanese RPGs, and even though you're Korean, I totally see that here. A lot of those are space or sci-fi themed, so in a way, the hair works. I do note a little bit of a quality issue, or maybe it's the lighting, but that aside, no real complaints here
Emma: I'm not as much of a fan of this. I feel like it's way too much hair, and I don't really get that much of a futuristic vibe from this! The expression and limpness in your body make you feel a bit dead to me! I'm sorry Yoon, I wish I had more positives to say here, but I just feel like I've seen much better from you.
Jennifer: To me, this just looks like a typical asian outfit (I spent over a year living in China). And I'm pretty sure I've seen similar things (at least those shoes) out and about on more than one occasion. But as an outfit for people in the western side of the world, you could easily make a case for future styles. We just aren't ready to be so bold all at once. I do like this shot, a bit much with the hair, but it still works.
This round, you were asked to submit either a "retro" or "futuristic" shot.
DEEPIKA (future)
Not the theme i wanted, but this photo definitely has the futuristic feel. The suit really looks futuristic here and the smoke behind her helped my theme even more. Hope you like it!

JAMES (retro)
Try to use your imagination. It looks like an old-time cafe, an average tweed-suit wearing Joe sits down with the paper (who reads that anymore when they are online) and wearing glasses that are extremely aged.

I decided to take a risk and go with something rather simplistic. I feel this represents the futuristic themes in two ways. One is in the headpiece, looking a bit like stars to me. The second I feel is that I'm looking into the future with a mixture of hope and trepidation.

NICO (retro)
Fashion of the last 15-20 years is pretty broad haha... we have gone through many changes in how we look.. from the pastels of the 80s, the jeans of the 90s, the sunglasses of the 00s, and now the hipster trends of the 10s (not saying those were the only trends of the past, but they come to mind haha)... I thought i'd fit in around the late 90s in this pic with my fashion. Sleeves rolled up to the shoulder... vests... and even though its not technically "jeans" it could almost seem like im pulling off the jean jacket & blue jeans look... jeans were everything in the 90s. Now there's guys wearing red and yellow courds everywhere you look, with some expensive lace leather boots and an expensive peacoat. Not saying I don't like that men are finally getting some sort of fashion sense (seriously, the guys on my campus are real metros haha)... but its definitely changed since the days of simple clothing like below.

SELENA (retro)
Representing the Pin-Up Girl of the 1940s.
Fun Fact: It was in the early 1940s, when war rationing extended to fabric, that the two-piece swimsuit really started gaining popularity. Designers shortened tops and removed the extra skirt panel covering the thighs to save on fabric consumption, but still kept the navel strategically covered with a high-waisted bottom.

For this photoshoot, I choose Futuristic. This photo has both the futuristic and fashion elements. The neon colour, specific lighting, and shapes give it a futuristic feel, along her Tulisa's outfit.

I always wandered what fashion what fashion will look like in the future. And when I saw this photo, I think it fits the styling in the future. Crazy hairstyles, bold patterned leggings and extremely shiny shoes. I hope you can see the futuristic element in this photo.
